Effect of Acupuncture on the Plasma β - endorphin Concentration in Healthy Person

Abstract

|
Acupuncture has been used as a therapeutic treatment to control the various types of illness in oriental medicine. Especially it has been suggested as a treatment of choice for the pain control during the acute phase of illness. Scarce reports have been appeared on its mechanism.
To clarify the possible mechanism, I have examined for the plasma hormonal changes in the healthy person.
Plsama β-endorphin concentration was increased by the acupuncture at the meridian point Hap Kok(Ll 4) up to 2 hour after application, whereas plasma β-endorphin concentration failed to show changes after acupuncture at the meridian point Jok Sam Lee (S 36) or Shin Soo (B 23).
